As one of Leicestershire’s premier cricket clubs, Sileby Town Cricket Club strive to have the very best possible, both on the pitch and off it.
The club’s practice facility was over 20 years old and had certainly seen its fair share of foot traffic and inclement weather over the years.
Having constructed the original facility and with a relationship spanning over 20 years including NTP works on both squares, Leicestershire based ECB Approved system supplier Dura-Sport were invited by the club to inspect the facility and provide a report and recommendations.
After examining the original foundation, cage and fencing system, all were found to be still structurally stable and did not require replacement. Therefore a facility refurbishment and reconstruction was specified, but to include a number of enhancements, upgrades and design features.
Existing perimeter edge detail was replaced, internal framework removed and additional layers of specialist materials were imported into the foundation to aid facility levels and pitch performance.
The original shock pads were replaced and upgraded to DSi-layer thicker, wider, superior performance underlays, installed throughout the full length and full width of each practice pitch in one continuous piece of material to significantly reduce maintenance and provide excellent consistency.
The original surfaces were replaced and upgraded to the latest edition of DSi-weave loam coloured superior Wilton woven cricket carpets. Confirmed as the strongest and most durable surface available, DSi-weave provides pitches to replicate the look, feel and performance of a well prepared natural grass wicket.
Finally, the original needle punch surrounds and joins were replaced with DS Evograss which replicates the look and feel of natural grass.
The project was completed on schedule and within budget, achieving ECB technical compliance and club members are delighted with the results.
