Lanhydrock Cricket Club

Beautiful weather and bright sunshine met our installation team as they entered The Lanhydrock Estate in Cornwall. And a fantastically well prepared Cricket Club were there to meet them too. 

With the club located an 8 hour round trip from our Head Office in The Midlands, combined with the reduction in travel due to a global pandemic, the usual site visits and face to face meetings had to be replaced by zoom calls, phone calls, e-mails and text messages.

Remote planning and discussions included not only the facility design itself but also creating a suitable access route into the club, agreeing location and orientation and the remedial works required prior to our arrival, which included the removal of an existing facility and a significant amount of groundwork. The “work in kind” aspect of the project was expertly led and managed in minute detail by Steve Cavendish at the club. (to such an extent that even our teams requested favourite tea bags and biscuits were provided from the second day onwards). 

The final outcome: Perfect remedial works and site preparation and 100 odd tonnes of aggregate delivered through the new access point, plus concrete, beeping laser levels, diggers, rollers, pads, carpets, steelwork, netting, tea, biscuits, dust and sweat (but no blood or tears) has all helped to produce a state of the art ECB Approved twin bay fully enclosed and lockable DDA compliant non-turf cricket facility for Lanhydrock Cricket Club. 

The ECB Approved DSi-pro Vision cricket pitch system is installed through each lane from front to back, avoiding changes in performance or feel underfoot, carpet joins or trip hazards. The system is surfaced with loam coloured DSi-weave, a superior wilton woven cricket carpet confirmed in an ECB test laboratory as the strongest and most durable cricket carpet available in the industry. It’s unique design and spike resistant technology forms the closest carpet in look, feel and performance to a well prepared natural turf wicket.

A sign confirming that “The Brian Read Training Nets” were officially completed and ready for their first delivery was then fitted to the cage structure. A fine gesture and acknowledgement to Brian, (a former County Cricketer, Lanhydrock CC player & groundsman and current club ambassador) from a very nice, thoughtful and welcoming cricket club. 

After sharing a socially distanced drink together on the final evening to celebrate a job well done, fist bumps goodbye as is the current protocol were exchanged between the team and the club members and it was time for us to leave Cornwall and head back up to The Midlands the following morning, leaving behind a modern cricket facility and the sunshine….but no spare tea or biscuits.
