Warwickshire
It may be the birthplace of the world famous game which takes its name, but the town of Rugby in Warwickshire play other world famous sports too.
After working with the club on previous non-turf projects, Dura-Sport were approached by Rugby Cricket Club to provide help and advice with regards to upgrading and expanding their existing facilities.
With the first XI competing in the Premier Division of the Warwickshire League, their dedicated coaches and volunteers were looking to expand their programmes for juniors, 16-20 year-olds, women and girls and pupils at local schools in lower socio-economic areas.
To secure future plans and to bring the game to a wider community, additional facilities were required to accommodate this expanding club.
Following discussions at the club with management and coaches regarding dimensions, configuration, performance, lifespan and budget, a specification was agreed to meet the required criteria.
Firstly, the existing netting and accessories were removed. Then, the existing twin lane batting and bowling configuration was ripped out, with the foundation reconstructed to form a facility with practice pitches running from the front to the back of each lane. Two more lanes were then added to the facility following the same practice pitch configuration.
The existing green multi-use surfaces have been upgraded to ECB Approved DSi-pro Vision cricket pitch systems, surfaced with our enhanced DSi-weave superior wilton woven cricket specific carpet. The carpet is manufactured using a unique loam coloured yarn to provide the look, feel and performance of a well prepared natural turf wicket.
The existing sand filled infill carpet has been upgraded to DS Evograss, an enhanced natural looking tri-coloured synthetic carpet with the look and feel of natural grass to help to blend the facility into the outfield.
Because of the modular fashion in which Dura-Sport facilities are constructed, we were able to link additional steelwork to the existing to form a new four bay heavy duty cricket cage.
The cage has been clad with enhanced DS HD knotted netting of increased durability and thickness to cover the back, wings, intermediates and full roof of the structure.
Batting curtains were then fitted to the cage structure and the crease areas marked out.
By purchasing materials directly from UK manufacturers and constructing the facility using our own in house installation team, we were able to specify these enhanced products at Rugby Cricket Club whilst remaining within the clubs budget for the project. This means that the club has a four lane replica of the nets we constructed recently for Warwickshire CCC.
The project has been completed within both the agreed timeframe and within budget, ready for the 2022 cricket season.
With training facilities upgraded and expanded, Rugby Cricket Club can now boost their membership numbers and provide greater opportunities to more people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to participate in the sport we love.

“We are absolutely delighted with the recent installation of our new practice facility at Rugby Cricket Club by Dura-Sport. The whole process from initial consultation and site visit to quotation, order and installation, has been smooth and efficient with excellent communication throughout. Despite horrific weather conditions the site team carried out the required work to a high level and were careful in the way they left the ground once finished. As a Chairman undertaking such a project it is always daunting, but Dura-Sport have been a pleasure to deal with and I highly recommend them to other clubs looking at similar projects.”
