Newbridge Cricket Club’s existing practice facility had seen better days, so they approached Dura-Sport for some help and advice, initially with regards to refurbishment.
Following examination of the existing facility layout, materials and foundation, discussions with the club began with regards to the project. After sharing guide costs for several options, it became apparent that it would be best value to excavate out and remove the existing facility in its entirety and provide an enhanced 2021 design for the club.
The club made the decision to carry out all remedial works themselves which formed their “work in kind” aspect of the project. This included the removal of all synthetic components and the cage and netting from the area in order to leave a blank canvas to construct the new facility.
Then it was our turn. Firstly, our digger came in and extended the length and width of the design in order to house a perimeter fence, as well as the depth of the existing 50mm foundation to 200mm for more stability. Then came delivery of the specially selected foundation materials to fill the excavation, which were levelled out and screeded with our laser grader before being rolled and consolidated into consistently even layers. The facility configuration itself was also upgraded, with traditional bat and bowl islands within internal boards ripped out and replaced with full length ECB Approved practice pitches, fixed to a new enhanced perimeter edge detail. Finally, the original light duty cage was replaced with thicker heavy duty ECB compliant steel work and fitted with an upgraded heavy duty netting system.
The club opted for The ECB Approved DSi-pro Vision cricket pitch system to be installed through each lane from front to back, avoiding changes in performance or feel underfoot, carpet joins or trip hazards. The system is surfaced with loam coloured DSi-weave, a superior wilton woven cricket carpet confirmed in an ECB test laboratory as the strongest and most durable cricket carpet available in the industry. It’s unique design and spike resistant technology forms the closest carpet in look, feel and performance to a well prepared natural turf wicket.
