With seven sides and a rapidly expanding junior section, late in 2021 Kirkburton Cricket Club began the process of looking to upgrade their tired existing practice facilities for the 2022 season.
The clubs desired blueprint could be found less than 4 miles down the road at Almondbury Wesleyan Cricket Club, whose own tired existing facility was replaced with a newly constructed Dura-Sport facility in 2020. Wes’ new facility was deemed as the best in the area and has received excellent reviews for its design, construction and performance characteristics.
With an initial design chosen, Dura-Sport were then approached and invited to visit the club to provide further site specific information, guidance and upgrades.
Following discussions and measurements whilst considering budget against playability and maintenance, a final configuration of a 32.00m long twin lane practice facility was agreed.
In order to achieve this, firstly the club removed the existing cage and netting and ripped out the synthetic components and timber frames of the existing traditional twin bay bat and bowl configuration.
Dura-Sport then excavated out and removed the existing sub base, and extended it in depth to provide a deeper foundation, consisting of several consistent layers of specialist aggregates and geotextiles to aid with levels, drainage and stability.
The batting and bowling configuration was replaced with two ECB Approved DSi-pro Vision cricket pitches running stump to stump, surfaced with loam coloured DSi-weave superior wilton woven cricket carpet, the strongest and most durable cricket carpet available.
An enhanced heavy duty cage structure, of additional steel thickness and height was then erected and fitted with DS HD 3mm thick superior dark green knotted netting, secured using a tensioned line wire system.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget and was ready for the first outdoor practice session of the 2022 season.
The ECB Approved DSi-pro Vision pitches and DS Evograss surrounds and run up material form the closest non-turf system available to that of a well prepared natural turf pitch in terms of look, feel and performance.
The club has since added a fencing system to the perimeter of the practice facility to further protect their investment.
