A pitch had been constructed at Birch Street Open Space but after less than two years the tufted grass playing surface had become torn and had been pulled up and vandalised and only remnants of the surface were remaining.
A durable recreational surface was required to provide a usable facility for the local community. Remedial works were undertaken to the existing base before the pitch was surfaced with DS cricket carpet and marked out as per rules of the game.
